About this tool

The London stroke unit lookup tool has been developed to ensure patients are repatriated to the most appropriate local stroke unit. The tool matches patients' postcodes with the stroke unit catchment set by the London Cardiac and Stroke Networks. A map of these catchments (broken down to ward level) is shown below. As set out in the Stroke acute commissioning and tariff guidance, stroke units must accept patients who live in their defined catchment.

In some cases, due to capacity constraints, a patient's stroke unit may not be the unit closest to their home.

Patients may express a preference of stroke unit, for example, if they wish to be close to relatives who do not live in the same part of London. The preferred stroke unit must then decide whether to accept a patient who is not in their catchment.
